CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL

We have been planning on a dental surgery since September when we first had Kira screened by Lisa Datta, a Resident at the Denver Children's Hospital. The day finally arrived to have several teeth shaved down and crowned. Before surgery under GA Lisa showed up to ACTUALLY be the one to perform the procedure... I was so pleased... someone I truly trusted. She let us know they really need to crown the top four and the first two molars on the lower jaw. All in all she admitted they do whatever they deem necessary when she is under and will update me when complete... scary.

If you have not been following Kira's story... she has been challenging from birth with lots of messy poops, rashes, irritabililty, fevers, and yes awful teeth... even from the time these bad boys first peeked through the gums. There were times she had to have her sheets changed three times in a day since her poop was so liquid... it smelled like she was rotting from the inside out. Nutrient loss would seem obvious but why is this happening? The doctors only seem to confuse us and tell us everything is normal. Yet I have known she has to have something wrong with her. It was not until her first dental appointment with Dr.VanTassel who insisted I et me I speak up and find a new doctor and get serious about her teeth before it is too late. He suspected Ciliac Disease could be the culprit... and/or being critically ill when she was tiny had ruined some teeth. I do know that when we DID go gluten-free she changed in many ways for the better. Before our appointment with the GI MD at Children's we went back to gluten. NEEDLESS to say we have been on a regular diet ever since. She continues with issues but has seemingly a better immune system, her weight has come back up and the poop ebb and flow. STILL IRRITABLE and STILL we have concern for her adult teeth.

Bart had to work sadly and felt he could not take off but Grandpa Saunders drove us and was a huge help as Kira was nervous and rather tearful after waking from the GA. She loved the hospital... the wagon ride in, cool elevators, neat displays, generous nurses, and yummy ice treats. She got to drop off some special toys we bought for a special couple of kids... instead of a birthday gift to one of Heidi's boys. We wished we got to give it in person but it was a very private hospital setting.

Thanks to several of you for your prayers especially Aunt Lizzie and her family. She HAS to have OJ right when she wakes up and after getting up at four in the morning she ACTUALLY didn't ask for anything until she was heading off to the actual OR!!

SO glad we got to do something but hate she has to have metal in her mouth so young! Hope the kids at school don't pick on her when she starts to loose these teeth and you can see the metal back sides of the teeth.
